High School Programs
Long Island Sound Expedition Grades 9 - 12 Join the captain and crew of the Quinnipiack on an adventure around Long Island Sound! For teens who have an interest in marine science or tall ship sailing, Expedition is an opportunity for you to expand your horizons both as a sailor and a scientist. Explore Long Island Sound with the Captain and crew of the schooner Quinnipiack on this week long overnight exploration of the ports and environments in Long Island Sound. Participants will work and learn in a traditional tall ship watch schedule while on board, help prepare meals ashore and camp at a different port each night. During this intensive program combining sail training and marine science, participants will become active members of the crew, involved in every aspect of shipboard operations from sailing to anchoring to deck wash. Participants will also be academically challenged and learn about the history and marine and estuarine environments of Long Island Sound. While weather and tide will determine the final itinerary of the trip, some ports of call may include:
